Pyrenean Chamois (Rebeco) Hunting: The High Pyrenees
For the hunter who wants the mountain to test them: the Pyrenean chamois, high and hard-earned.
The Pyrenean chamois — rebeco — is the connoisseur's Spanish mountain hunt: high, demanding and deeply rewarding, and a natural companion trophy to the ibex grand slam.
The challenge
Hunted in the steep, high Spanish Pyrenees, the rebeco asks for genuine fitness and steady shooting at mountain distances. The reward is one of Europe's classic alpine trophies in spectacular country.
Season
Typically hunted in autumn into winter, weather permitting; the high country can close quickly with snow, so timing and flexibility matter. See the season calendar.
The trophy
Both sexes carry the characteristic hooked black horns; a mature animal with good hooks and a prime winter coat is a superb mount.
Import
Non-CITES — clean trophy import, including to Mexico. From Mexico, see the hunter's guide to Spain.
