Hunting programs in Spain
Complete programs rather than single animals: collector slams, multi-species combinations on one trip, private days for a group, and programs aimed at a medal-class trophy.
Slams & collections
Spain is the only country on earth where all four subspecies of ibex and both chamois can be hunted. Six CAPRA World Slam entries without leaving one country, and without a single CITES permit.
The CAPRA World Slam in Spain: six entries in one country
The CAPRA World Slam calls for twelve different goat species or subspecies. Spain supplies six: Beceite, Gredos, Ronda and Sierra Nevada among the ibex, and the Pyrenean and Cantabrian chamois. No other country comes close.
- Species
- Beceite Ibex · Gredos Ibex · Ronda Ibex · Sierra Nevada Ibex · Pyrenean Chamois · Cantabrian Chamois
- Months
- September · October · November · December · January · February · March · April · May · June
The Spanish Ibex Grand Slam in a single trip
Closing the Grand Slam in one trip is possible, but only in the window where all four subspecies are open at once. Outside it, it is not a question of budget: the season simply does not allow it.
- Species
- Beceite Ibex · Gredos Ibex · Ronda Ibex · Sierra Nevada Ibex
- Months
- November · December · January · February · March · April
The Grand Slam in two trips: southern block and eastern block
It is how most hunters end up closing the slam: two week-long trips in different seasons. It costs one more flight and removes almost all the date risk.
- Species
- Ronda Ibex · Sierra Nevada Ibex · Beceite Ibex · Gredos Ibex
- Months
- September · October · November · December · January · February · March · April · May
The Spanish chamois double: Pyrenean and Cantabrian
Pyrenean and Cantabrian chamois are two separate entries, not one. They sit less than a day's drive apart and share a window at two points in the year.
- Species
- Pyrenean Chamois · Cantabrian Chamois
- Months
- October · November · December · April · May
Combination programs
Two or three species on one trip, with the dates already cross-checked so the window genuinely exists. It is how a transatlantic trip is made to pay for itself.
Andalusian double: Ronda and Sierra Nevada ibex
Two of the Grand Slam's four subspecies, in two different ranges, without leaving Andalusia and with the same airport in and out.
- Species
- Ronda Ibex · Sierra Nevada Ibex
- Months
- November · December · January · February · March · April · May
Beceite and Gredos: the two classic ibex
Beceite and Gredos are the two subspecies with the most history behind them, and the ones hunters most often return for. They are half a day's drive apart and share a wide window.
- Species
- Beceite Ibex · Gredos Ibex
- Months
- October · November · December · January · February · March · April
Spanish ibex and the red stag rut on one trip
The rut lasts little more than a month and is the finest hunting spectacle in Spain. It overlaps with the opening of ibex, and that overlap is short.
- Species
- Gredos Ibex · Red Stag in the Rut
- Months
- September · October
Spanish ibex and a montería in the Sierra Morena
The montería is the most Spanish form of hunting there is, and it has no equivalent anywhere else. Pairing it with an ibex is what makes the trip worth the flight.
- Species
- Sierra Nevada Ibex · Driven Hunt in Sierra Morena
- Months
- October · November · December · January · February
Barbary sheep and ibex in southeastern Spain
Spain's free-ranging Barbary sheep lives in the southeast and is hunted on the stalk at long range. It shares ground and season with the local ibex.
- Species
- Arrui (Barbary Sheep) · Sierra Nevada Ibex
- Months
- October · November · December · January · February
Groups & corporate
The whole estate for your group: a private montería with its hound packs or a full driven partridge day, with the companion program taken care of.
Private montería: the whole estate for your group
Not scattered stands on somebody else's montería. It is the whole estate, the whole day, with the hound packs contracted and the stand list in your hands.
- Species
- Driven Hunt in Sierra Morena
- Months
- October · November · December · January · February
Driven red-legged partridge for groups and companies
The Spanish ojeo is demanding wingshooting and a social occasion in equal measure, and it sits less than an hour from Madrid. It works as well for a group of guns as for a corporate trip.
- Species
- Driven Red-Legged Partridge
- Months
- October · November · December · January · February · March
Medal-class trophies
Programs aimed at a specific trophy class, with the CIC band called in the field before the shot.
Gold-medal Spanish ibex
Going after a gold-medal ibex is not about hunting more days. It is about hunting different ground with a different criterion — and knowing what you are looking at before you squeeze, not after.
- Species
- Beceite Ibex · Gredos Ibex · Ronda Ibex · Sierra Nevada Ibex
- Months
- September · October · November · December · January · February · March · April · May
Gold-medal Iberian red stag in the rut
A great Iberian red stag is hunted on very few days of the year: those of the rut. Outside that window, a mature stag neither roars nor shows himself.
- Species
- Red Stag in the Rut
- Months
- September · October
