Andalusian double: Ronda and Sierra Nevada ibex

If there is only one week and the aim is to start the Grand Slam properly, this is the program. The Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra Nevada are each a couple of hours from Málaga, so two separate subspecies are hunted on one flight and one transfer in between.

Two ranges, two different hunts

It is not the same hunt twice. Ronda is steep Mediterranean scrub, with tighter stalks and short, vertical approaches. The Sierra Nevada is genuine high country, far higher ground, mild temperatures and typically sunny weather, and shots that open up. A hunter who does both in one week sees two ways of hunting ibex, not one repeated.

Why it is the best first trip

It has the simplest logistics of any Spanish mountain block: an international airport nearby, good roads, proper accommodation and short distances. For a hunter arriving from the United States or Mexico who does not know the ground, it is the natural entry point: you calibrate to the rhythm of the stalk and close two slam entries before committing to the harder block.

For those travelling with company

Ronda, Granada, the Alhambra and the coast all sit inside the program's radius. A non-hunting companion has a program of their own every day, which decides a great many bookings and is almost never mentioned.

It can be extended

In montería season, this double joins a driven hunt day in the Sierra Morena without leaving Andalusia. And if the trip runs longer, it chains into the eastern block to close the full slam.
