Spanish ibex and a montería in the Sierra Morena
The montería is the most Spanish form of hunting there is, and it has no equivalent anywhere else. Pairing it with an ibex is what makes the trip worth the flight.

A foreign hunter can hunt mountain goats in several places in the world. A montería can only be experienced in Spain, and only on a specific date: a montería is one particular day on one particular estate, with its hound packs and its stands allocated months in advance.
What a montería is
A day in which packs of hounds work an entire block of country and move the game — red deer, wild boar, fallow, mouflon — toward a line of standing guns. It is not a stalk: it is a hunting and social occasion that fills the whole day, with its field lunch and the laying out of the game at the end. It is hunted in the Sierra Morena, arriving through Madrid or Seville.
Why it fits with ibex
Because the montería is a single day. The rest of the week is free for mountain stalking, and the Sierra Nevada sits in the same southern half of Spain. The result is a trip with a mountain trophy, one irreplaceable day of communal hunting, and several possible species on the montería itself.
The months
The shared window is above, and it is the montería season. Outside those months the montería simply does not exist: one cannot be "arranged" in March.
Book early, and we mean it
Good monterías are closed many months ahead because there is a finite number of days and of stands. It is the least date-flexible product in the catalogue.
The hunts in this program
Sierra Nevada Ibex
High-mountain hunting at its finest, with mild temperatures and clear skies.
Driven Hunt in Sierra Morena
The great Spanish driven hunt: wild boar and red deer driven by hound packs across the Andalusian dehesa.
Frequently asked questions
- What can I take on the montería?
- It depends on the block and what the estate authorises that day: usually red deer and wild boar, and depending on the estate fallow or mouflon as well.
- Do I need a shotgun or a rifle?
- A rifle. We arrange firearm rental and paperwork if you would rather not travel with your own.
- Can I come without hunting, just to see it?
- Yes, there are companion places on the montería. It is a day that is enjoyed just as much without a rifle.
