If the Andalusian double is the entry point, this is the mountain hunter's trip. Beceite and Gredos are the two subspecies with the deepest tradition in Spain, and both ask more of you than a photograph of the horns suggests.
Beceite: the largest-bodied
Hunted in the Puertos de Beceite, inland in eastern Spain, arriving through Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia. It is the largest-bodied subspecies and the one with the most open, spectacular horns. Country of ravines and rock, with stalks that begin before first light.
Gredos: the classic range
West of Madrid, the Sierra de Gredos is open high country, with horse support on the tops to reach the altitudes where the mature males hold without spending the whole morning climbing. It is the ibex hunting that has appeared in Spanish hunting literature for a century.
The logistics
The two grounds are linked by road with a driver. Madrid works as both arrival and departure airport, which simplifies the firearm paperwork and the trophy shipment.
What it combines with
This is the block that extends best. September and October bring the red stag rut; October to February, montería and wild boar; and Iberian mouflon is open across virtually the whole window of both ibex.

- No, it is optional support to reach the high ground. It can all be done on foot if preferred.
- Which gives the better trophy?
- They are different horns, not better or worse: Beceite is more open and heavier-bodied; Gredos has the classic shape many collectors are after.
- Can we fly between the two grounds?
- No need: they are linked by road in half a day, which also avoids a second firearm procedure.
