When a group buys scattered stands on somebody else's montería, it controls nothing: not who else is on the line, not how the stands are drawn, not the pace of the day. Contracting the whole montería changes that entirely, and it is the format chosen by companies, by groups of friends who come back every year, and by incentive-travel organisers.
What a private montería includes
The estate's full block for the day, the hound packs with their handlers, the organisation of the line of stands, the field team, lunch and the laying out of the game at the end. It is hunted in the Sierra Morena, arriving through Madrid or Seville.
The draw for stands
It is what most determines how the day is experienced, and the one thing no group controls when buying loose stands. On a private montería the draw belongs to the group, and it can be adapted to each gun's experience: less seasoned hunters are accompanied by a secretario who explains the block, the safe arc of fire and the rules of the day.
Companions
A montería is a social occasion as much as a hunting one. Those not shooting have a program of their own: the estate, the field lunch and the laying out of the game are enjoyed just as much without a rifle, and that detail is usually what turns a hunting trip into a group trip.
Dates: there is no flexibility here
A montería is one specific day on one specific estate within the season, and the good days are allocated many months ahead. For a large group, the conversation starts the previous season.

- How many guns are needed?
- A montería is usually set with between 20 and 30 stands. With smaller groups the line is completed or a smaller block is found.
- Can rented rifles be used?
- Yes. We handle firearm rental, licences and insurance for the whole group, which is what saves the organiser the most work.
- What if some of the group have never hunted a montería?
- They are accompanied by a secretario who orients them on the block, marks the safe arc of fire and looks after safety throughout the day.
- Can we add another hunting day?
- Yes. The usual additions are a driven partridge day or wild boar stands the following day, or stalking for anyone after a particular trophy.
