The Spanish Ibex Grand Slam in a single trip

Closing the Grand Slam in one trip is possible, but only in the window where all four subspecies are open at once. Outside it, it is not a question of budget: the season simply does not allow it.

It is the trip almost every international hunter asks about before any other: all four ibex, in one go. It can be done, and we do it, but it is worth understanding what governs it before buying the ticket.

The window exists, but it is narrow

Each subspecies has its own season and the four are not open all year. The months listed above are exactly those where all four overlap: outside them, the full Grand Slam in one trip stops being possible and has to be split in two. Firm dates are set each year by the hunting order of each autonomous region, so the window is confirmed season by season.

The route

The four ranges trace a diagonal across Spain. The efficient way is to chain them by geography rather than by preference: the eastern block — Beceite, with Gredos as the step toward the centre — and the southern block — Ronda and Sierra Nevada, both a couple of hours from Málaga. Transfers are by road with a driver, and rifle and paperwork travel with you the whole way.

Two or three days per animal, and why not fewer

A mountain stalk is not planned in hours. Fog shuts a massif for a full day; a mature billy pulls back into the shade and you return the next morning. Booking two or three days per subspecies is not commercial caution: it is what separates a closed slam from three animals and an excuse. With ten or twelve days there is room for two days to go wrong and the trip to still stand.

Scoring and trophy

The CIC band is called in the field before the shot, so you know what you are hunting and what it will cost before you squeeze. All four subspecies are prepared and documented together at the end of the trip, in a single shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the real window for all four at once?
The months listed on this page, which come from the overlap of all four seasons. It is confirmed each year against each region's hunting order.
What if I only have a week?
In a week you can do two subspecies properly, usually the southern block. Attempting four in seven days is the surest way to come home with two.
Can my partner come?
Yes, and there is a companion program. The southern block runs from bases with excellent access to Ronda, Granada and the coast.
